What is being done about the inhumane treatment of girls and women? Not enough! The preposterous truth is that only a third of the world’s countries have laws that prohibit violence against women, and if legislation is in place, it’s rarely upheld.
This PSA video, shot by Indrani, a renowned photographer, shows how horrific girls in India can be treated “like an infectious disease.” As in other parts of the world, Indian girls are abandoned at birth, or worse, sold into the sex trade, and/or forced into child labor. “The Girl Epidemic” is a campaign to change the fate of these girls through education.
The Girl Epidemic website thegirlepidemic.org states:
EDUCATING A GIRL IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE CURE. BECAUSE WHEN YOU EDUCATE A GIRL, YOU MAKE HER A VALUED MEMBER OF SOCIETY AND BEGIN CHANGING DEEP-SEATED SOCIAL NORMS AND INJUSTICES.
Saw this twet a few days ago..here are links to at least 3 organizations that are ‘doing something about it’
