It’s July, and much of America’s thought turns to the beach…calming sea breezes, soothing white sands, whispering waves…all lulling us into that long-anticipated dreamy state of summer. Each season arrives with its own songs…many of them oldies but goodies, some of them classics, and a few of them seemingly immortal. In his June 30, 2012, article “The Elusive Girl From Ipanema” Thomas Vinciguerra pays tribute to “The endlessly covered Brazilian song (that) turns 50 this year” and explains why “To the layperson, ‘The Girl from Ipanema’ sound like a nice song…But to the trained ear it is perfection.’” Vinciguerra’s article is worth the read.
